OPPO Watch X3 review: Android’s all-rounder, iPhone users need not apply

OPPO Watch X3
BUY

TL;DR: The OPPO Watch X3 is a robust, rugged-yet-classy titanium smartwatch with super battery life, a brilliant 3000-nit display and genuinely useful Gemini integration. ECG isn’t available in the UAE and iPhone users are left out, but for Android owners it’s one of the best all-round Wear OS watches available.

OPPO Watch X3
4
SCORE 4 out of 5
BUY

I’ve spent years wanting to love Wear OS watches, only to end up resenting them every night when they begged for the charger. The OPPO Watch X3 is the first one in a long time that made me stop thinking about battery altogether, and that changes the entire relationship you have with a smartwatch. It pairs a titanium case and sapphire crystal with a dual-chip design and a 646mAh silicon-carbon battery, and the result is a full Google smartwatch that thinks in days rather than hours. Living with it in the UAE, where a normal week can swing from office air-conditioning to blazing outdoor heat to a pool session, it held up to everything I asked of it. It feels robust, it looks properly premium, and it never once left me stranded.

That doesn’t mean it’s flawless, and a few of its limitations matter more for buyers here than elsewhere. ECG isn’t available in the UAE, iPhone users are locked out entirely, and some of the smartest extras only work with OPPO phones. But as an all-round Android companion that combines toughness, style and genuinely useful AI, it’s one of the most complete Wear OS watches I’ve worn. I’m giving it 4 out of 5, and the rest of this review explains exactly why it earns that score and where the last point slipped away.

Rugged yet classy styling that works from the gym to a dinner

The X3 nails a balance most smartwatches miss. The titanium alloy case, 12-faceted bezel and rivet detailing on the Misty Titanium model give it the presence of a mechanical sports watch, the sort of thing that looks at home with a kandura, a suit or a running kit. It’s rugged without screaming “adventure gear,” and classy without feeling fragile. Obsidian Black takes a more understated route, with circular titanium accents and darker tones closer to Bruce Wayne’s off-duty watch than Batman’s utility belt. Personally, Misty Titanium is the one I’d buy, because it carries the design’s personality far better.

The strap deserves a mention too. The new Dynamic-Link design mixes fluoroelastomer with segmented metal links, so it flexes naturally around the wrist while still looking like a proper watch band rather than a gym accessory. Misty Titanium gets the hybrid band and Obsidian Black a full fluororubber strap, both with stainless steel buckles, and the contrast of materials on the titanium model is a nice touch.

Comfort is where the material choice really pays off. At around 43g without the strap (roughly 70g with it on Misty Titanium, 68g on Obsidian Black) and 11mm thick, it’s 13.4% lighter and 6.3% thinner than the Watch X2, and on the wrist it simply disappears in a way bulky rugged watches never do. The one design compromise is the underside, which uses glass-fibre-reinforced plastic instead of metal. It’s practical for the sensors, but it slightly dilutes the premium story once you flip the watch over. It’s also only offered in a single 47.4mm size, so smaller wrists should try before buying.

Built to take a beating, and it shows

Robust is the word I kept coming back to while using the X3. Titanium and sapphire are the same pairing high-end mechanical watches rely on to survive doorframes, desk edges and careless moments, and the X3 benefits from exactly that toughness. Titanium is lighter and more corrosion-resistant than stainless steel, and sapphire is rated 8+ on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, which is why everyday knocks that would scar ordinary glass simply don’t register. Add IP68 and IP69 ratings (the latter covering high-pressure, high-temperature water jets), 5ATM water resistance and 16 MIL-STD-810H tests covering heat, cold, shock and vibration, and you have a watch that doesn’t need babying.

That matters in this climate more than spec sheets let on. Sweat, sunscreen, sand and chlorine are part of daily life here, and the strap and sealed build shrug all of it off. Splash Touch is another quietly brilliant addition, because it keeps the screen responsive with wet fingers after a swim or a sweaty workout. Anyone who’s tried to end a workout on a watch that ignores damp taps knows how annoying that gets. The X3 feels like it was built for people who actually use their watch rather than just wear it.

Super battery life thanks to a clever dual-chip brain

The battery is the X3’s headline act, and it absolutely delivers. The secret is a Dual-Engine Architecture: a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 runs Wear OS, apps and demanding tasks, while a low-power BES2800BP chip runs a lightweight real-time OS for background jobs like notifications and health sensing. The watch switches between them automatically, so the power-hungry processor only wakes when it’s genuinely needed. Think of it as keeping a supercar and a scooter in the same garage and only firing up the supercar when you actually hit the highway. The 646mAh battery uses silicon-carbon tech with 10% silicon content, which is how such a big cell fits into a case this slim, and it makes most rivals look thirsty. Performance is backed by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and day-to-day navigation feels smooth.

You’re looking at up to five days in Smart Mode, around three days of heavy use with always-on display and third-party watch faces, and up to 16 days in Power Saver Mode. In my experience the battery life is exactly what makes this watch special, because it lets sleep tracking, workouts and notifications all run without the usual nightly charge ritual. When it does need juice, 10 minutes on the puck gets you a full day of use, and a full charge takes up to 75 minutes. The magnetic charger performs best with an OPPO VOOC brick, so Samsung and Pixel owners may not see the quickest speeds from a generic adapter.

A 3000-nit display that stands up to UAE sunlight

The 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED panel runs at 466 x 466 pixels (310 PPI), sits at 600 nits by default, climbs to 1500 nits in strong sunlight and hits up to 3000 nits in the sports modes outdoors. That peak is a 36% jump over the Watch X2, and here it isn’t a vanity number. Anyone who has tried to read a watch face under midday UAE sun knows how quickly a dim screen turns into a mirror. The X3 keeps data readable when it actually matters, whether you’re checking pace on an outdoor run or glancing at a notification in a car park.

LTPO also plays a key supporting role in that battery story. By dropping the refresh rate when content is static, it keeps the display from draining power unnecessarily, especially with always-on display enabled. Sapphire over the top means the screen stays clear and scratch-free over time, which matters on a watch you’re expected to wear for days without taking off. With over 100 watch faces to choose from, there’s plenty to show off on it, too.

Gemini makes it feel like a genuinely smart watch

Gemini integration is one of the X3’s best features, and one of the clearest reasons to pick Wear OS over a proprietary platform. Long-press the crown or say “Hey Google,” and you can fire off questions, set timers, send quick replies or handle small tasks without digging your phone out. It’s the kind of feature that sounds like a gimmick until you use it daily, then you can’t imagine going back. Having it on a watch that lasts days rather than hours makes it even more valuable, because the AI is actually available when you need it.

The broader Wear OS 6 package helps too, with Google Play, Google Wallet over NFC, Google Maps, Calendar, Messages and Find Hub all on board. Bluetooth 5.2 handles calls from the wrist, and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) keeps some features working when your phone isn’t nearby. The everyday basics are all here as well: notifications, music controls, weather, compass, flashlight, timers and alarms. OPPO phone owners get bonus tricks like camera remote control and Short Video Control, which lets you swipe through TikTok and YouTube Shorts and adjust volume with the lower button, though both require ColorOS 15 or newer.

Fitness tracking covers the essentials and then some

The X3 supports over 100 sports modes, with 11 professional modes offering deeper data: running, tennis, badminton, swimming, skiing, rope skipping, hiking, brisk walking, cycling, elliptical and rowing machine. Running gets the most attention, indoors and out, tracking cadence, stride length, ground contact time, vertical oscillation, left-right balance and running power in real time, then laying out a structured summary in the app afterwards. There’s proper coaching too, with guidance across running types, aerobic training effect, recovery time, heart rate recovery, a track running mode and champion-led courses. Tennis and badminton log swing speed and stroke types, swimming covers SWOLF and pace, skiing tracks runs, speed and slope, and hiking records ascent and descent. Six activities, including running, walking, cycling and swimming, are detected automatically. Padel players, and there are a lot of them here, won’t find it among the professional modes, which feels like a missed opportunity for this region.

Dual-band GNSS across GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS, paired with a 7nm positioning chip, a circularly polarised antenna and real-time orbit data, is a meaningful upgrade for anyone running between tall buildings, where single-band GPS tends to draw creative routes through towers. Strava sync and Google Health Connect support mean your data doesn’t get trapped in OPPO’s ecosystem, which is something I care about a lot. Open-water swimming is coming in a future update rather than available at launch. For most people, though, the X3’s training tools are more than enough to take workouts seriously.

Health tracking is thorough, with one big UAE asterisk

The sensor stack is serious, with an 8-channel heart rate sensor running a new multi-channel PPG algorithm, a 16-channel blood oxygen sensor, wrist temperature tracking, a barometer and an ECG built into the lower button. You get continuous heart rate with high and low alerts, resting heart rate, all-day SpO2 with low-oxygen alerts, fall detection, cycle tracking, sedentary reminders and guided relaxation. The 60s Wellness Overview pulls up to 10 readings across heart health, sleep and physical and mental wellbeing into a single quick check, and Mind and Body Evaluation uses HRV, resting heart rate and activity, factoring in things like late nights and long sedentary stretches, to estimate fatigue and stress.

Sleep tracking is equally comprehensive, covering deep, light and REM stages, a sleep quality score, respiratory rate, sleep SpO2, bedtime reminders, a morning report and naps of 20 minutes or longer. It’s a toolkit that makes the X3 feel like a proper health companion rather than a step counter with ambitions.

Verdict

The OPPO Watch X3 gets the fundamentals right in a way few Wear OS watches do. It’s robust, comfortable and genuinely classy, with titanium and sapphire that look premium and stand up to daily abuse. The battery life is outstanding, and that single quality transforms the whole experience, letting sleep tracking, workouts and Gemini all coexist without the nightly charging routine. The 3000-nit display suits harsh sunlight perfectly, and the fitness and health toolkit is broad enough to satisfy anyone short of a hardcore athlete.
